Earth Day 2013 Video Competition: GLOBE and Your Local Community

Goal: Highlight students demonstrating how participating in GLOBE has enabled or inspired them to improve the environment of their home, school, or local community.

Who:
GLOBE students from around the world.
What:
GLOBE students should create a short (2 minutes or less) video that answers the question “How has doing GLOBE improved our local community?”  The video should illustrate what the students are doing with GLOBE and how it’s benefiting the environment of their home, school, or local community. Entries should also include contact information and transcripts of the video.  (Note: If video is not in English, also provide a transcript in English.)
Upload videos to your favorite video sharing website (e.g., YouTube, TeacherTube, Vimeo) and send The GLOBE Program Office (GPO) the link to your video.  Schools may enter more than one entry and videos may be created by individuals or teams of students.
When:
  • Entries: 01 February to 08 March 2013
  • Top regional videos will be highlighted starting 16 April 2013
  • Top overall video will be highlighted on 22 April 2013
How to submit and what needs to be submitted:
Send all materials to climatecampaign@globe.gov
  1. Video: Link to student video hosted on video sharing site (e.g.,  YouTube, TeacherTube, Vimeo)
  2. Transcript: Written transcript of video (if video is not in English, include a transcript in English and the students’ native language)
  3. Contact information: Student(s) names, grade level of student, teacher name, school name, preferred email address and full postal mailing address for certificates and awards
How videos will be scored:
  • 10 pts: Clear demonstration of how participation in GLOBE has led to an improved environment or increased environmental concern
  • 10 pts: Shows students in action
  • 10 pts: Transcript (in native language and English)
  • 5 pts: Audio and video quality
  • 5 pts: Adhering to 2 minute of less time limit
  • 5 pts: Including all contact information

Important note: Videos showing students doing protocols incorrectly will be disqualified. Review the protocols and ask questions before you record.

Prizes include:

1st place overall: Approximately $75 USD worth of equipment for GLOBE protocols, video highlighted on the GLOBE website and GLOBE social media on Earth Day 2013, certificate

Regional prizes:

  • 1st place  – Approximately $50 USD worth of equipment for GLOBE protocols, video highlighted on the GLOBE website and GLOBE social media prior to Earth Day 2013, certificate
  • 2nd place – Approximately $35 USD worth of equipment for GLOBE protocols, video highlighted on the GLOBE website and GLOBE social media prior to Earth Day 2013, certificate
  • 3rd place – Approximately $25 USD worth of equipment for GLOBE protocols, video highlighted on the GLOBE website and GLOBE social media prior to Earth Day 2013, certificate

All participating students will be emailed a certificate of participation
