Northern California Global Youth Peace Summit

The Amala Foundation is excited to announce that, for first-time ever, we will be hosting a Global Youth Peace Summit outside the state of Texas.  The 1st Annual Northern California Global Youth Peace Summit will take place July 15th-July 20th, 2013 at Point Reyes National Seashore, California.  This Summit will be held in partnership with Point Reyes National Seashore as well as Point Reyes National Seashore Association.

The Global Youth Peace Summit is now in its seventh year in Austin, Texas.  Please visit our Austin Global Youth Summit page for more information on our Global Youth Peace Summit in Austin, Texas.

Each year, the Global Youth Peace Summit unites refugee, immigrant, American and international youth (ages 13-18) for a youth summit devoted to heart-centered dialogue, healing, cultural exchange, authentic expression and exploration of self and world.

Uniting 50 youth from over 15 different countries, the Northern California Summit is a sustainable peace movement where cultural, religious and personal differences are celebrated and our humanity is acknowledged as the thread that unites us all.  The Summit is a vehicle for healing, personal growth, connection and real change in the world. It offers young people, sometimes for the first time in their lives, a direct experience of what it means to live in unity and peace, free from fear and violence.  Through team-building exercises, opportunities for cultural exchange, leadership training and talking circles, youth are inspired and empowered to be peace-focused leaders in their homes, schools and communities.

The Summit is a place for healing, connection and empowerment. Many of the youth who attend the Summit have experienced abuse, extreme poverty, religious persecution, child labor, gang violence, and neglect; some have witnessed the atrocities of war and have literally run for their lives; many have been uprooted from their native cultures and struggle to integrate into an entirely foreign world.  Represented countries at past Summits in Austin include: Nigeria, Syria, Kenya, Iran, Burma, Mexico, El Salvador, South Korea, Thailand, Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, The Congo, Uganda, Guatemala, India, Pakistan and more.

The Need

Global Youth Peace Summit imageAt a time when the world seems increasingly violent and polarized along the lines of faith, nationality and political belief, there is a need for people to connect to each other and the world around them on a deeper level. The Global Youth Peace Summit addresses this need by uniting adolescents, including refugee, immigrant and under-served youth, to develop values of peace, compassion, and leadership, while helping them discover the power of service to others.

How You Can Help…

We are also looking to partner with local organizations who work with under-served youth including refugee and immigrant youth.  We are also in the beginning stages of reaching out to potential business sponsors and partners, including local educators, farmers, printers, t-shirt companies, and restaurants.

If you or your organization is interested in participating in this transformational and one-of-a-kind experience, please email Ryan Jordan at ryan@amalafoundation.org.

Want to help support the Summit by reaching out to family and friends?

The Global Youth Peace Summit is truly a community effort and we need YOUR SUPPORT.  Through our online giving platform, you can create your own fundraising campaign and ask friends and family to support the youth of the Global Youth Peace Summit.  Click Here to get started.  It takes less than 5 minutes to set up.
