International Symposium on Society & Resource Management

Conference Theme

  • A Time for Integration

The lack of integration among the sciences is a major constraint to dealing with the complex nature of today’s environmental problems and is a particularly severe problem among the social sciences. Different social science disciplines use disparate terminology, theories and methods. ISSRM 2013This makes consensus difficult, conclusions elusive and, hence, linkages with the natural sciences as well as practical applications too infrequent. ISSRM 2013 will address these issues with a focus on 1) exploring disciplinary perspectives on the possibilities, the progress and the potential for integration, 2) highlighting examples of advances and successes in social science integration, 3) emphasizing new methodologies that facilitate cross-disciplinary integration, and 4) exploring the implications of integration among the social sciences in making contributions to addressing environmental issues.
